Affiliations with Co-Counsel
The United States District Court for the District of Oregon and its Bankruptcy Court have primary locations in Portland and Eugene. Our practice before the federal courts routinely results in our affiliation with out of state lawyers who seek our assistance in bankruptcy or commercial disputes before courts in Oregon. For routine bankruptcy matters, motions for relief from the automatic stay, objection to confirmation of Chapter 13 plans and objections to dischargability of debts we usually complete the service for a flat fee. For more complex matters, we prefer that professionals referring clients to us remain active in the case or transaction. It assures continuity of service both as we enter and leave an engagement.
Out‑of‑state lawyers find our office easy to work with. When pro hac vice admission is required, we will sponsor well‑qualified out‑of‑state attorneys. We, at least, participate to the extent necessary to assure that counsel does not run afoul of local custom and practice. If requested, we are prepared to assume total representation.
Our well qualified paralegals deserve special mention. They are experienced in dealing directly with out‑of‑state lawyers and their staffs. For our lawyers, they routinely occupy the second chair at hearings and trials, tracking and preserving all manner of evidence and exhibits. They can, and do, provide similar service to out‑of‑town counsel.
Local attorneys are encouraged to enlist our assistance in either advising them or their clients about issues falling within the scope of our practice. On occasion, a courtesy phone conference may be all it takes. On other occasions, we pull the laboring oar to achieve our common goals.
